December opening day duck hunting for teal, Florida mallards and ring-necked ducks on the flats south of the Monkey Box was fair to good. Most of my clients had some action shots during the morning and afternoon hunts. The ring-necked duck hunting was far better then expected. Teal have been showing up in good numbers. The cold fronts that have hit the northern states will be the needed push to get the ducks heading south in large numbers. Duck hunting outlook for December and January on Lake Okeechobee is expected to be very good this year especially with the lake water level dropping!

Duck Hunting Report - Florida Lake Okeechobee - December 13 & 14, 2004

Lake Okeechobee duck hunters Marvin Bartz (Venice, FL - e-mail: marvbartz@aol.com) and a friend had some action shots at mallards, blue-winged teal, widgeons and ring-necked ducks during an afternoon and morning of duck hunting on December 14 & 15, 2004 with Captain Ron. Ducks were hunted over decoys in the flooded field areas south of the Monkey Box area of Lake Okeechobee. They also combined a 2 half day bass fishing trip on the afternoon of December 14th. & the morning of the 15th. They caught and released about 20 bass up to 5 lbs. Bass were caught in the North Shore and Monkey Box areas of Lake Okeechobee.
